St Joseph's Past Pupils Union fun day

As ever, the event is at the school and will take place between 1-5pm and will include a raft of events designed for all ages.

The afternoon will begin in the school’s lecture theatre with Jo Jingles, a music, singing and movement class for babies and pre-school age children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Altogether there will be three of these sessions at 1.30pm, 2.15pm and 3pm and the cost per child is just £2.

At 3.15pm in the lecture theatre there will be a DVD showing of this year’s highly successful school show ‘The Adventures of the Lone Moor Ranger’. If you didn’t manage to get tickets for these sold-out performances last month then it’s worth showing up just to seee this.

For the football fans, at 2pm on the school pitch there will be a match between two teams formed by members of St Joseph’s Past Pupils Union committee, Seamus Breslin and James Campbell.

Local radio station Drive 105 will be broadcasting live from the fun day and asking those in attendance for their thoughts on what’s going on. They will be based at the school assembly hall foyer throughout the afternoon. Also in the foyer will be Foyle Cycling Club who will tell anyone interested how to become involved in the sport how to go about it and accompanying them will be students from the school selling an array of healthy snacks.

DJ Shay Whelan will be providing music from the stage of the assembly hall and there will also be kids arts and crafts and face painting. The school’s Technology and Design and the Art Department will also have a sale of the works by the school’s students. Other stalls will be the Foreign Foto Booth, Jim Campbell, Orlaigh Sally and Maighread McCaul.

The Hive, based at Rathmor will also be demonstrating the drone they use in film making and other photographic projects. The school’s computer rooms will be open for all Minecraft fans.

In the afternoon sports enthusiasts can benefit from a raft of different sports clubs, Oxford United FC, Doire Colmcille GAC, Na Magha hurling club, North Star Basketball Club and City of Derry Tennis Club will all be there on the day. Derry City Council will also be there with their Active Communities team to advise what is on offer across the city.

And for the smaller children will of course be a bouncy castle, a disco dome and a helter skeleter. All that remains is to make sure that you bring the family along to what is always a fun filled day for all in the community.
